Freeserve are dropping our connection when we try to deliver to their addresses. This is part of the anti-spam system they have implemented. If those affected are unable to contact Freeserve, we would recommend using an ac.uk address wherever possible.
Maintenance work being is being carried out at this site over the weekend of 10/11/January 2009 - the service may therefore be 'at risk' during that time. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

From Tuesday 2nd June, every list homepage (http://www.mailtalk.ac.uk/yourlistname) and every posting stored on the Mailtalk online archives will include a bookmark/share button which will have links to a selection of social bookmarking/sharing sites.
Social Bookmarking allows you to share, store, organise, search, tag and manage webpages you would like to be able to revisit in the future or share with others. For example if a posting is made to a Mailtalk list that you know will be of interest to someone else you can email a link to that person using our button. Alternatively you can choose one of the social networking sites you are registered with, e.g. Twitter or Facebook, to share the link with a group of people. You might use the sharing button to bookmark a link to your list homepage or a particular posting on a list that you can revisit at a later date on a site such as Delicious.
All of the sites used in the social networking button are free to use but you must register with them. Once you have registered you can begin bookmarking/sharing.
In the case of private Mailtalk lists, the person you are sharing with can only access the link if they are registered to use Mailtalk and subscribed to the list.
We will be upgrading the Virus Scanner on our server on Tuesday 19th May. The Mailtalk service will unavailable from 08:30 for approximately 15 minutes.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

We are currently experiencing delays sending to Yahoo email addresses due to complaints by Yahoo users against Mailtalk. We have contacted Yahoo and hope to resolve this issue with them. If you do not wish to be subscribed to any lists on the Mailtalk service, please send an email to listserv@mailtalk.ac.uk with no subject and unsubscribe * in the body of the email removing any email signatures.
Mailtalk does not add your email address without your consent but if you feel that you have been added to the list without your consent please email helpline@mailtalk.ac.uk.
Mail distribution is currently running slowly due to overloaded mail servers on our site. Our networking team is working to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Messages will be queued in our system so there is no need to resend.
Many apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Please note that the Mailtalk service will be 'at risk' between 08:00 and10:00 on Tuesday September 22nd due to testing of our UPS (uninterruptable power supply) system.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

There have been some problems with hotmail addresses on the Mailtalk service recently.
The first of these is that the Hotmail relay has been listed in the JANET Realtime Blackhole list. This may mean that Hotmail users also have problems sending to other ac.uk addresses as those sites are likely to be using the same JANET blocklist.
More info can be found at: http://www.janet.ac.uk/services/mail/janet-rbl/dnsbls.html where you can check your IP address.
Another problem that some users have experienced, is that Hotmail occasionally sends an automatic 'sign off' command to Listserv which Listserv then responds to.
If this happens, please go to www.Mailtalk.ac.uk/listname (where 'listname' is the name of your chosen list) for a link to re-subscribe.
